What credit card processing includes
Every time a customer taps, dips or swipes a card, a few things have to work together: a merchant account that moves the money to your bank, a terminal or POS system at the counter, and the pricing that decides how much of each sale you keep. When any one of those is a poor fit, small businesses end up paying for it in confusing fees, hidden markups or equipment that doesn't match how they work.
We look at all three with you. Then we help you put a setup in place that makes sense for your business, your customers and your budget.
How card processing pricing works
Processing statements can be hard to read on purpose. In plain English, most pricing falls into a few common models:
- Flat rate: one percentage on every sale. Simple to understand, but you may pay the same on every card no matter what it actually costs to process.
- Cost-plus (often called interchange-plus): the card networks' cost passed through, plus a disclosed markup. More transparent, but the statement has more line items.
